Charades

Charades is a great ESL game to play with students. They get to move around and be silly.

Sometimes, kids are a little shy at first when playing Charades, so you may need to jump in and do the actions with them. This will help them to feel more comfortable and come out of their shells.

CHARADES

Target English: any vocabulary
Things You Need:flash cards (optional)
Age: 4 or older
English Level: low-high

Game Outline:
1. Divide the class into two teams.
2. Show the first team a vocabulary word. They must act it out.
3. If the second team can guess what word the first team is acting out, then they get a point.
4. Switch teams and let the second team act out a word while the first team guesses.

Variations

  • Older kids may be able to come up with their own vocabulary words for this game.
  • If students are too shy to act out the words, then you can have the teacher act out words and the team that guesses it first will get the point.
  • Focus on only one theme of words (e.g. verbs, animals, etc.) and let the kids know what the theme is. This will help them focus their guessing.

Hope you and your kids have fun with this game.

Love,
Shannon Sensei
