ESL Game:
The Snake Game

This is a fun ESL game that the children like. This should be used with vocabulary that the children are fairly familar with, not new vocabulary.

THE SNAKE GAME

Target English: Vocabulary
Things You Need: Vocabulary Cards
Age: 5+
English Level: Any

Game Outline:
1. Put the vocabulary cards on the floor in a squiggly snake-like line.
2. Divide the class into two teams. Teams stand at separate ends of the snake.
3. When teacher says "Go!" one student from each team stands next to a vocabulary card and says the word out loud. Then they move on to the next card.
4. The two students will be approaching each other. Once they meet, they play "rock, paper, scissors". The winner can keep moving forward, but the loser has to go to the end of the team's line. The next student on that team starts from the beginning.

Note: In all of the excitement of this game, make sure that the students are properly saying each word. This game can get out of control very quickly.

Shannon Sensei
