Why Use ESL Games?
Games are Fun!
So why should you use ESL games in your lessons? Any student knows that a lesson where you just sit there while the teacher talks at you is going to be a boring lesson. Games can change your lesson from ho-hum to POW!
If you use fun games during your lessons, your students will be begging to come to school. Heck, they won't even realize that they're learning English. All they will think is that they are having fun.
This page will list some of the games that I have found to be most effective in teaching my lessons. It's constantly being updated, so make sure to check back for new ideas.
If your teaching babies, then it would be a good idea to start with ESL Games for Babies.
But for the older kids, here are a few of my favorite games, in no particular order:
The Sumo Game
KABOOM
Charades
The Flying Tiger Game
The Walking Around Game
The ABC Race
The Chopsticks Race
The Colors Game
Big Karuta
The Categories Game
ABC Volleyball
The Ghost Game
The Fishing Game
The Snake Game
Musical Chairs
The Freeze Game
I Spy
The Airplane Game
The Time Bomb Game
The Circle Game
Using Board Games
ESL Basketball
Pass the Face Game
And while we're at it, you might need some different ways that you can choose teams. If so, check out my tips for choosing teams.
I love using games in my lessons and I hope that you enjoy the games that I've offered. If you've got a great game that works well in your lessons, please send it to me using the contact page.
Love,
Shannon Sensei
