Heart Person Craft

The Heart Person is a good Valentine's Day craft to do with slightly older kids (from 5 years and up). The intricate pieces make it a bit difficult for younger kids, even if all of the parts have been cut out for them. But older kids will have fun putting it together.

Materials Needed:

  • empty toilet paper roll
  • red construction paper
  • pink and white heart shaped punch-outs
  • slightly larger pink heart for the face
  • pipe cleaners for arms and legs
  • yarn (optional)
  • glue

Preparation
If you want, you can cut out the heart shapes for the kids. Since this craft is only for older kids, however, they should be able to do it themselves.
This should take 10 minutes for a class of 12.

In Class

  • Have students cut out the hearts. They can use a paper punch-out tool for this.
  • Cover the toilet paper roll with red construction paper using glue. Trim any excess off of the top and bottom.
  • Draw a face onto the larger pink heart and glue the head to the body. If you want to add hair to the head, then do so now.
  • Use tape to attach the hearts to pipe cleaners. Then punch holes in the toilet paper roll to attach the arms and legs.
