Love Bug

The love bug is a great Valentine's Day craft for the kids. It comes out looking very cute. The picture of my sample, over to the left, is just an example. Really...the sky's the limit here and you can let the kids get as creative as they want! Glitter, feathers, pipe cleaners, yard, pom poms...anything goes! Because you'll want to wait for the paint to dry, this craft should be done over two days.

Materials Needed:

  • egg carton
  • red paint
  • heart shaped punch-outs
  • anything else you want for decoration (e.g. pipe cleaners, feathers, glitter, etc.)

Preparation
Cut the egg cartons so that they have the desired number of humps. This should take 15 minutes for a class of 12.

In Class

  • Have students paint the egg cartons red. This would be a good time to use the glitter if you are going to use glitter. Let dry overnight.
  • The next day, glue heart punch-outs for eyes.
  • Also use glue to add any other things that they want. More heart punch-outs create a ladybug-like effect. You can also add feathers for wings. Pipe cleaners can be used for legs or antennae.
