Hello Everyone, and Happy November!

I hope that everyone had a good Halloween. Halloween went really well here and I was quite impressed with how much Halloween vocabulary my kids knew by the end of the month. All of them knew the basic words--black cat, witch, pumpkin, etc. and about half of them even knew the harder words--skeleton, werewolf, and mummy! Starting the words early in the month was really effective.

This is the reason that the newsletter is coming out a bit late this month--I wanted to wait until I had the Christmas Lesson Plan up. I know that it seems a bit early to be thinking about Christmas, but if your school is anything like mine, your Christmas/New Year's holiday starts well before Christmas, so it's a good idea to get things started early. I plan on starting the Christmas vocabulary November 20.

Check out the Christmas Lesson Plan here.

This month's question comes from Anna:

Dear Shannon Sensei,
I have a class with 7 girls and only 1 boy. I'm having a hard time getting the boy to participate. I know that it's because he's shy and embarassed to be the only boy, but how can I overcome this?
Thanks! Anna
